Introduction

About

State Key Laboratory of Oil & Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation is the first State Key Laboratory (SKL) in upstream oil and gas industry and one of the earliest SKL of China. As the most integrated research entity in the field of oil and gas exploration and development disciplines, the laboratory has continuously achieved a number of major research results and key technologies that have been applied to industry and benefited the country both economically and socially. Being an important part of innovation system of the national oil and gas exploration and development, SKL has become an important base of organizing high level research, overcoming major technical problems, gathering excellent scientists, conducting academic exchanges and cultivating high-level talents. SKL has made great contribution to both the development of China's oil and gas industry and national economy.

Orientation and Objection

The laboratory revolves around the national energy important strategic needs, with research involving the complex hydrocarbon reservoirs in western China and offshore deep water and unconventional hydrocarbon resources like shale gas, coal-bed methane and gas hydrate etc. Taking “Discovering hydrocarbon reservoirs, Understanding hydrocarbon reservoirs, Exploiting hydrocarbon reservoirs, Protecting oil and gas reservoirs, Enhancing hydrocarbon reservoirs” as the principal research route, the laboratory develops oil and gas simultaneously and integrates its research on offshore and onshore reservoirs, with a characteristic research on gas. Aiming at the frontier science of exploration and development, conducting the basic research of application, extending from basic research and technological innovation, State Key Laboratory of Oil & Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation is designed to solve key scientific and technical problems in oil and gas exploration and development, cultivate and bring together a group of high-quality innovative talents in oil and gas exploration and development, improve the core competitive competences of oil and gas exploration and development technology, and promote the sustainable development of oil and gas industry.

Typical Achievements Introduction

State Key Laboratory keeps developing its expertise in research of gas, multi-disciplinary study and dealing with major technical problems. It has made significant progress in oil and gas exploitation, which has attracted international academic attention and received high evaluation. Besides, SKL has made many academic achievements in basic research and realized industrial application in large scale, which contributes a lot to national scientific progress in oil and gas industry and national energy security.

  • Break the bottleneck of our deep reservoir exploitation and development by using the deep well drilling fluid technology under complicated geological conditions
  • The unique partition type gel plugging technology has successfully governed the CNPC LuoJia2 well with high H2S and XuPing8-1well with high CO2 which sprays same layer and many other severe mud losing wells.
  • Take the lead in developing 200℃high temperature gel fracturing fluid system and creat the successful precedent of 180℃reservoir fracturing treatment.
  • Offshore oil well fixed string acidizing technology and sea water injection online one footwork acidification technology, has become the main current in offshore oil field acidizing treatment.
  • Discover the high-sulfur gas reservoir characteristics of infiltration rule for the first time, establish the gas-fluid(sulfur)-solid(sulfur) three-phase model of the seepage, which provides the high-sulfur Puguang gas field in the northeast Sichuan basin with efficient development decision basis.
  • The system of dynamics behavior study for ultra-deep sea drilling risers and safety controlling technology has played an important role on the construction of a platform of "offshore oil 981" and ultra-deep water drilling safety.
  • Develop the ultra-high temperature and high pressure full diameter core displacement device(200MPa pressure, 200℃ temperature)for the first time, which solve the key test technical problems in deep Tarim gas field development.
  • The long-term study of the dynamics of orogeny、basin formation and accumulation plays an important guiding role on oil and gas exploration in Sichuan basin.
  • Significant progress has been made in the formation mechanism and prediction technology of deep carbonate reservoirs, the achievement guides the 300 billion large gas reservoirs in the west of Ordos Basin, playing an important role in the exploration of large gas reservoirs such as Guangyuan, Longgang, Sichuan.
  • Leading and promoting the development of drilling fluid, underbalanced drilling, cementing and bit technology in China.
  • Create the while-drilling pressure and engineering parameters measurement system, realized the monitoring of downhole pressure, which break the monopoly of foreign countries and applied successfully in the "offshore oil 981" deepwater drilling platform.
  • In view of the need of wellbore integrity and safe service life of sour gas reservoir deep well/ultra-deep well with high temperature and high pressure, a set of basic theory and engineering application technology of wellbore integrity and safety has been formed based on experiment with theoretical innovation being a breakthrough, thus ensuring the service life and safety of oil and gas wells.
  • Significant progress has been made in the study of basic problems of key technologies for the effective development of marine facies shale gas in southern China
  • Independently developed and designed the world's first large experimental system for the exploitation of solid natural gas hydrate through fluidization, with a method for the fluidization exploitation of non-diagenetic solid hydrate at the shallow seafloor surface being firstly proposed in the world, which is also included in the first national key research and development plan.

Experimental Platform

The total area of the State Key Lab is over 10000m2. Research facility in SKL is worth over 140 million yuan in total. Rock mechanics, microscopic reservoir, fluid analysis, unconventional gas reservoir, physical properties and percolation of reservoir, oil and gas reservoir engineering(acid gas reservoir is contained), reservoir protection and under-balanced drilling, corrosion evaluation, fracturing and acidizing, enhanced oil recovery and other labs have been established, forming an integrated experimental platform which accommodates research service from micro scale to macro scale, from indoor analysis to engineering simulation, as well as research abilities from fundamental theory to innovations in engineering technology.

The laboratory has invested 50.78 million yuan to improve the experimental platform since 2010. Two new experimental platforms were built, with 8 platforms and one large physical simulation experimental area refined. The platform has a variety of functions and aspects, such as the analysis platform on unconventional oil and gas reservoir (new), research platform on development of acid gas reservoir (new) , analysis platform on composition of reservoir/micro structure, reservoir fluid phase and characteristics of percolation, flow behavior of oil (gas) and operating fluid, test platform on rock physical parameter, research platform on enhanced oil recovery, fracturing and acidizing, reservoir protection, under-balanced and gas drilling, large-scale physical simulation on petroleum engineering etc.

Cooperation and Exchanges

For a long time, international cooperation and exchanges have always been emphasized by the lab. Specialists and scholars from the US, Germany, UK, Canada, Japan, France, Australia have visited the lab for academic exchanges. The lab has established long-term academic exchange connections with some outstanding universities and scientific research institutions in the US, Germany, Canada etc. Meanwhile foreign professors are engaged to give lessons. Researchers here have made academic visits and exchanges to nearly 30 countries.

The establishment of visiting scholar system has attracted over 100 domestic and international peers to conduct visiting research work in the lab since 2010. Meanwhile, over 90 excellent doctors have been attracted here to do research.

There are over 20 open foundation projects every year, which attracts domestic and international talents to launch cooperative research and achieve significant outcomes. The lab keeps spreading scientific knowledge, scientific spirit and lab culture. There are more than 2000 primary and secondary school students and a number of social teams visiting the lab every year.

Since 2010, more than 30 international conferences or symposiums have been held by the lab, and the researchers have given 125 presentations.

Foreign experts have been attracted and invited to visit/participate in exchanges over 130 times since 2010.

Over 20 famous foreign universities and research institutions have launched all-round cooperation with SWPU since 2010.
