State Key Lab of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation is the earliest state key lab of Chinese oil and gas exploration and exploitation field. It was built up in the year of 1989, was examined in 1995, and was opened in the same year.

Our state key lab centers on the key problems in complex oil and gas reservoir exploration, mainly develops basic and application basic theory research, and thus generates new series of support technologies combining with applications.

The director of State Key Lab of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation is Professor Du Zhimin, and the director of academic committee is Professor Liu Baojun, academician of China Academy of Sciences. Now there are 54 researchers, 411 undergraduate masters, 183 undergraduate doctors and 27 post doctors.

Now our state key lab can offer large scale equipments, such as Scanning Electron Microscope, Atomic Force Microscope, X-Ray Diffractometer, Rheometre, Rapid Triaxial Rock Testing System, etc. And we have developed 7 experimental research platforms of rock physical parameter test under formation conditions, oil and gas reservoir component and configuration microcosmic analyse, oil and gas reservoir fluid and oil well operating fluid analyse, oil and gas reservoir operating fluid core flow behavior test. Each experimental platforms form complete systems, and can be linked up with each other to form series, so they can meet the needs of oil and gas exploration and exploitation and associating research fields satisfactorily.
